Price the complete return itinerary

KrisFlyer: search the origin-to-Malé itinerary for both directions and note whether the quote is Saver or Advantage, plus taxes and connection time. Do not infer the return price from one available segment.

Avios: search the operating partner and each segment. Partner pricing, route distance and availability can make the total differ from a simple headline estimate.

Use a dated hotel search, not a fixed category

Search Marriott with “Use Points / Awards” enabled for the exact four-night window. Record the standard-room points total and any mandatory cash charges or transport costs. Flexible pricing means the same resort can require a different number of points on different dates.

Check the card-to-hotel conversion

A card point is not automatically one Bonvoy point. For example, Axis publishes a distinct Marriott conversion ratio for Atlas. Apply the current issuer ratio before estimating how many months of card spend the stay requires.

A repeatable timeline formula

First calculate transferable miles or hotel points earned per month after category exclusions and the transfer ratio. Then divide the live award requirement by that monthly total and round up. Run flights and hotels separately because they may use different currencies and conversion ratios.

Plan with three scenarios

Use a conservative case with base-category earning only, a realistic case using your normal category mix, and an upside case including only published milestones you are likely to reach. Do not include a welcome bonus until it has posted or an unannounced transfer bonus.

Which cards get you to the Maldives fastest

HDFC Diners Club Metal — compare its current earn rules, acceptance, fees and live transfer ratios for both your chosen airline and Marriott before treating it as a single-card solution.

Axis Atlas — supports airline and hotel transfers, but Axis publishes separate transfer caps and a different Marriott ratio. Model those terms explicitly.
